Giannis Antetokounmpo Signs Record Supermax Extension with Milwaukee Bucks
Giannis Antetokounmpo agrees to a 5-year, $228 million supermax extension to remain in Milwaukee. The back-to-back reigning MVP’s contract is the largest in NBA history.
“This is my home; this is my city. I’m blessed to be able to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next 5 years. Let’s make these years count. The show goes on, let’s get it.”, Giannis tweeted after signing the megadeal.
The Bucks had desperately wanted to secure Antetokounmpo to drive away potential suitors that could entice him to leave Milwaukee. With the deal, the 26-year-old forward will stay with the Bucks until the 2025-2026 season, with a free agency option after the fourth year.
Milwaukee fans rejoiced after heaving a collective sigh of relief upon learning of Antetokounmpo’s signing. They hope to have the “Greek Freak” lead the Bucks to an NBA Championship sooner than later in his 5-year contract.
The Bucks revamped their lineup this season to surround Antetokounmpo with supporting players in their quest for a title. Milwaukee acquired Jrue Holiday, an all-around playmaker who can mix it up in the point guard-talented Eastern Conference. The team also obtained the services of Bryn Forbes, Bobby Portis, D.J Augustin and Torrey Craig to strengthen their roster.
Antetokounmpo, a generational talent snagged by Milwaukee in the 2013 draft with their 15th pick is the first Buck to win multiple MVPs. He’s also just the 3rd player in NBA history to win regular season MVP and Defensive Player of the Year honors in the same season.
