October 14, 1987: The Chicago Bulls sign first-round pick Scottie Pippen.

Originally drafted by the Seattle Supersonics in the first round of the 1987 NBA Draft, he was acquired by the Chicago Bulls through a trade.

He would go on to win 6 NBA Championships (2 three-peats) as the second-best player for Michael Jordan’s Bulls. His all-around court abilities would serve as an excellent counterpart to Jordan’s game. Chicago sportswriter Sam Smith summed up the duo’s partnership: “Pippen was the ultimate supporting player, the perfect complement.”

With 10 NBA All-Defensive Team honors, Pippen is considered one of the best defenders of all time. The 7-time NBA All-Star was a member of the 1992 Dream Team and the 1996 Dream Team III which won Olympic gold medals in Barcelona, Spain, and Atlanta, USA, respectively. In 1996, he was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.

He retired from the NBA in 2004 after 17 seasons playing for three teams (Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, Portland Trailblazers). In 2010, he was inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
