Virtus Roma is withdrawing from Italian Serie A due to financial problems. The owner, Claudio Toti sent a letter to the Italian Basketball Federation to announce the decision. The league announced the news but the club didn’t say a word… The Serie A is now down to 15 teams.

The club was founded in 1960, and won the Euroleague in 1984. Roma played in Euroleague between 2006 and 2011. Maxime De Zeeuw played one season in Roma, Tomas Van Den Spiegel played 2 seasons with the Italian side. The club played in the historic PalaLottomatica.

This season, Roma won 2 games in 9 games. The club started the season without a main sponsor and with financial issues. Earlier this season, the Virtus Roma players refused to play for the first 24 seconds against Germani Brescia because of the financial problems.

Anthony Beane (former Spirou Charleroi), Dario Hunt (former Spirou Charleroi) and Gerald Robinson (former Leuven Bears) were in the roster this season.
