Andy Van Vliet wins Polish Championship with Trefl Sopot

28 year old Belgian Forward/Center Andy Van Vliet has crowned himself champion of the Polish First Division last night as he helped his team Trefl Sopot to a 4-3 win in the best of 7 final series against King Szczecin.

In what turned out to be a very hard-fought battle in which Trefl Sopot was down 1-3, Van Vliet and his teammates were able to turn things around, winning the final 3 games of the series to reach that coveted title. It was Van Vliet’s 4th season abroad after graduating from William & Mary (NCAA) and his first with Trefl Sopot. In a total of 45 games (with 25 starts) Van Vliet averaged very solid numbers with 11.1 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.2 apg, 0.6 spg & 0.5 bpg in 19.1 mpg. Along the way he also recorded 4 Double-Doubles, including a season-high 29 points & 11 rebounds effort in the win at Dabrowa Gornicza in the Quarter-Finals which allowed his team to advance to the Semi-Finals (against Slask Wroclaw).

Congratulations Andy!
