Lions start pre-qualifications with the win on the road
The Belgian Lions have opened their 2-game road-trip with a win in Iceland.
Despite falling behind in a fairly rough opening quarter against the energetic Icelandic defense the Lions picked things up in the second quarter to slowly chip away at the deficit and eventually went up and over for the 34-43 lead at the half. The strong outside shooting helped our Lions to stay ahead of Iceland with a cushion of about 6 points but were unable to really pull away throughout the second half until late in the final quarter when Van Rossom hit his third bomb of the night for his 17th personal point and the 10 point lead (64-74). In the closing minute Boukichou drained 3-4 FT’s and Serron got an easy deuce for the 66-79 final score.
Belgium is now 2-0 and will travel to Portugal for the next match-up of this pre-qualification window this Sunday.
Van Rossom led all scorers with his 17 pts and added 3 rebs & 4 asts. Jean Salumu came off the bench in attack-mode and got himself to the line 8 times, draining 7 of those attempts as he scored a total of 15 pts, while also getting 4 rebs & 3 asts. Khalid Boukichou finished with 11 pts, 5 rebs & 3 blks and Quentin Serron added 11 pts & 3 stls. Pierre-Antoine Gillet recorded 9 pts & 5 rebs.
