Player Profile: Sam Hofman

After 13 seasons of hard work with Bavi Vilvoorde youngster Sam Hofman made the move abroad this past summer where he has now concluded his first season in the NCAA with the Detroit Mercy Titans.

As the first Belgian player to be recruited into the program (and obviously being a freshman) Hofman’s minutes have been limited throughout the season but I think it’s fair to say that it has been a successful first experience for the 19 year old shooter. Hofman competed in a total of 21 games to play an average of 7.5 mpg in which he scored 1.7 ppg & grabbed 1.2 rpg. He even got the starting nod 7 times and put down his best performances of the season against Green Bay. In their first meeting of the season (Jan. 18) Hofman dropped a season-high 9 pts in 15 mins, while he finished with 6 pts & 6 rebs in the second meeting between the two teams (Feb. 21).

Before the season at Detroit Mercy started Hofman had also competed for the Belgian National Youth Team for his 4th consecutive European Championship (U16, U18 twice & U20). As a member of our U20 Lions who managed to get the bronze medal this past summer Hofman added 4.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.9 apg & 1.0 spg in 19.0 mpg.
